ACT's Harm Reduction department (formerly known as the CT Center for Harm Reduction) educates the community on overdose prevention, syringe services, and sexual health practices. Harm reduction is a public health strategy that was developed initially for adults with substance abuse problems for whom abstinence was not feasible. In recent years, it has been successfully applied to sexual health education in an attempt to reduce both teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV.
ACT offers the following prevention programs to support individuals and communities throughout Connecticut.
A harm reduction service that encourages injection drug users to dispose of used needles safely.
Safer sex educational and medical materials for the community, to prevent the transmission of STIs.
We provide access to Naloxone and training on overdose prevention, recognition and response.
Free HIV and Hep C counseling & testing, outreach, linkage to care, and PrEP referrals.
